The Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (TSMA) is
the largest national organization of the sporting goods industry
in the Republic of China on Taiwan. Its major tasks are to
promote export of Taiwan-made sporting goods, to stage trade
fairs in import countries, to review overseas investment
projects, to achieve concerted actions for industrial
developments and expansion, and to implement government policies
for industrial environmental protection and prevention of design
piracy and trademark counterfeiting.
Established in 1972 by 16 sports racket manufacturers, TSMA went
on expansion by incorporating sports goods manufacturers of
other product categories and as of Dec. 2006, its membership
grew to 362. Of the total, 224are full members and 138
associated members.
TSMA membership consists of two categories. Full membership is
limited to government-licensed sporting-goods manufacturers and
associated membership is offered to qualified sporting goods
traders, trade-news media, government trade promotion agencies
and trade legal consultants.
TSMA has eight product divisions, five committees and a
secretariat. Products of the same and related category are
grouped into a division for inter-industrial developments and
expansion. The committees are organized to deal with
international affairs, trade shows and international trade
promotion, intellectual property protection, industrial
environmental protection and overseas investments. Free trade
information service and inter- industrial affairs are performed
by the secretariat.
TSMA is an inaugural member of the World Federation of Sporting
Goods Industry (WFSGI) headquartered in Verbier, Switzerland.
WFSGI is the official world organization formed by the national
sporting goods manufacturers associations and the large
multinational corporations from more than 50 countries in
Europe, Asia, North America, South America and Oceania.
